Primary Entry 4

"But despite the media’s penchant for beating to death anything to do with the Internet, a new phrase has recently entered the public’s online lexicon, one that actually carries significant societal ramifications: the “digital divide.” In the most basic sense, the digital divide is the ever-growing gap between those people and communities who have access to information technology and those who do not. (In other words, to use another pedestrian metaphor, the have’s and the have-not’s.) The digital divide has been on the radar screens of those of us in the policy world for a while now, but over the course of 1999 its profile was raised as more political leaders took an interest in the subject."
The article show us many way in which the digital divide is one of the most important part of civil rights. We all know the all know have civil right is a very impowing feeling. No one should every feel like they are nobody. Also article show tje real number of people who have access to the internet at home and other place they may travel to in there daily lives.

That's true that the article mentions the civil right. The online users should respect themselves and others on the cyber world like in real world. I do not like the gap (digital divide), so I hope we can work on the problem, and then we can communicate with others without any obstacles(disadvantage, such as indentity theft or censorship or something bad to other users) in cyber networks.

i also think that there is a big gap between those people who use computer and those who havent use the computer. nowdays, we get more and more depend on the internet to obtain information and it become one part of our live. when we compare with people from the third countries, we will find our we have a lot of different due to the gap.

"In the most basic sense, the digital divide is the ever-growing gap between those people and communities who have access to information technology and those who do not." This statement sums it all up! This gap that is occurring with the have's and have not's is growing rapidly. Personally I do not think it will get any better, or at least any attempts in making it better can be done until our economy shapes up. The poor are getting poorer and so are the rich...What can we do???
